Child Paternity in Michigan?

My son has a baby but unfortunately he and the mom had broken up before she was aware she was pregnant my son knows the baby is his hes not denying that but because she didn't call him when she was in hospital he is not on the birth certificate they tried getting back together hasn't worked out but now we don't know how he goes about claiming he is the father and getting some kind of custody preferably joint
