Baby's dad is married. ?

My boyfriend and I are having a baby in October but he is married to another girl and neither of them are putting in any effort to make it final. So last night I told him that if he wasn't divorced his name wasn't going on the babies birth certificate if the divorce wasn't final. It is 100% his kid with out any doubt and he knows that. What would need to be done after their divorce is final to add him to the birth certificate. And was that the right thing to do? Please help.
